3 Ways Your Mindset Affects Your Life
Written by Kimberly Fowler
Are you building your own tax business or balancing a job while growing your entrepreneurial dream? If so, let’s talk about how shifting your mindset can completely transform your success. It all starts in your mind. The results in your business are a direct reflection of what you believe and think every day.

Let’s explore three common ways your mindset directly impacts your life and business success.
How do you react when things don’t go as planned? Maybe a client gives you feedback, or you make a mistake. Does it completely throw you off, or are you able to quickly correct and move on? If your mindset focuses on perfection, you’ll likely be discouraged by even the smallest missteps.
Here’s the key: mistakes happen, and that’s okay. The most successful people understand that failure is part of the process. When things go wrong, take the time to learn from it, adjust your processes, and move forward stronger. For those thinking of making the leap from employee to entrepreneur, lack of confidence can keep you stuck. But remember: the freedom to set your own hours, work with clients you love, and answer only to yourself is worth stepping outside that comfort zone.
There’s a common mindset among new business owners—especially in the service industry—that they must underprice their services to attract clients. But here’s the problem: underpricing often leads to burnout and can prevent you from earning enough to sustain your business.
If you’re pricing yourself too low to “get the job,” you’re essentially sending a message to potential clients that you don’t value your services enough. Clients who resist paying your rates are probably not the right clients for you anyway. Pricing is an essential part of your business growth. Set prices that reflect the value you provide and attract the clients who truly understand your worth.
Many solo entrepreneurs, especially those who are self-taught or entering a saturated market, struggle with the feeling of being an “imposter.” They question whether they’re good enough or whether they truly belong in the industry. This mindset can affect your confidence, your pricing, and ultimately, how you present yourself to clients.
Remember: everyone has to start somewhere, and being self-taught is a strength, not a weakness. The more you embrace your skills and experience, the more confidently you’ll present yourself. Clients want to feel confident in your abilities, so let your expertise shine through—be sure to highlight your wins, successes, and testimonials to build credibility.
It’s clear that your mindset can make or break your entrepreneurial journey. But here’s the good news: mindset shifts are absolutely possible with consistent effort and practice. The key is to replace negative self-talk with positive affirmations and take action every day.
For example, if you feel insecure about a situation, focus on the positive feedback you’ve received from clients. Read those testimonials, recall past successes, and use that as fuel to move forward with confidence.
